Victor Manuelle's first, superlative effort for Sony Latin still remains one of his most swinging records; possessing more than good looks (something that seems like a commandment),
Manuelle is an improvisational singer with great ability, and this production is mostly oriented to
Gilberto Santa Rosa's style of romantic-cum-traditional salsa mélange (
Santa Rosa was the producer).
Manuelle's vocalizing style may remind one of a younger version of
Rubén Blades, but this is the kind of sonero that was necessary to add the kind of spark needed in an ailing genre. A must for salsa fans, the highly promoted tune was "Me Dará el Consentimiento" by Pedro Azael. ~ José A. Estévez, Jr.
