A collection of some of the singer's biggest Spanish-language hits (and a nice break from the "California Dreamin'"/"Light My Fire"-based compilations),
La Historia de Jose Feliciano is 19 tracks of
Feliciano at his finest, before he began singing adult contemporary favorites. Two of his earliest hits, "La Copa Rota" and "Amor Gitana" are both included, as are "Contigo en la Distancia," "Sabór a Mí," "Usted," and "Todo una Vida."
Feliciano's voice is smoky and warm, the guitar is bittersweet, and everything has that great '60s folk feel, intimately recorded yet still somehow very far away. A nice addition to his more popular work, at least in the United States,
La Historia de Jose Feliciano is a good compilation that should be found in any fan of Latin or American music's record collection. ~ Marisa Brown
