Trules Heggero’s transcendent falsetto is most easily compared to Mew frontman Jonas Bjerre’s, but makes an ideal complement to LAKE TOBA’s surrounding wash of joyous keyboards, alt-rock-inspired power chords, and manically crashing drums. This is a record that’s a bit giddy and weird, at times reminiscent of Deerhoof’s odd arrangements, but also relentlessly accessible, buoyantly driven, and bent on delivering an endless stream of hooks and indie pop uplift. Highlights like “In A Hologram” get special mention for keeping one's legs continuously bouncing, but there’s nary a bad track in the bunch.
