Celtic music is often about the sea-faring life, so it's no surprise that some of Canada's best Celtic-influence bands have come either from the West Coast (
Spirit of the West) or the East Coast (
Great Big Sea,
Rankin Family). It's a bit surprising, therefore, that one of the more interesting Celtic bands comes from the landlocked prairie (Edmonton, to be precise). The playing is tight, and the material is generally at the same level as that of their compatriots from the Coasts. About the only complaint that could be made against this album is that it doesn't take itself very seriously -- and that's not even that bad a thing. ~ Sean Carruthers
