Much of this CD features drummer
Gene Krupa's little-known string orchestra of 1945.
Ed Finckel's arrangements are a major asset and there are vocals from
Lillian Lane and the G-Noters. Although this group did not last long or develop its own personality, it created some fine music during its short existence. Highlights include "Blue Moon," two versions of "Leave Us Leap" and a feature for trombonist
Tommy Pederson on "Moon Tide." In addition there are some selections from a slightly later broadcast (without strings) by the big band with tenorman
Charlie Ventura and a version of "Disc Jockey Jump" from 1948. An interesting CD, easily recommended to collectors who already have the more obvious releases.
