A 15-song LP, part of RCA Victor's
Legendary Performers series, which encompassed everyone from
Elvis Presley to
Arturo Toscanini. The tracks actually date from across 20 years, from the mid-'30s when the duo was in their heyday, to the late '50s, when
MacDonald and
Eddy returned to the studio to re-record much of their core repertory. "Indian Love Call," "Rose-Marie," "Italian Street Song," "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life," and "I'm Falling in Love with Someone" are classic 1935-1936 sides, but "Sweetheart Waltz," "Wanting You," "Rosalie," "Giannina Mia," "Stouthearted Men," and "Beyond the Blue Horizon" are from the late-'50s sessions. The voices are brighter and sunnier on the early sides, but the heightened fidelity of the later material makes for a somewhat compensatory factor. Recording dates are included but, alas, there is no significant annotation.
