Let Me Tell You (Remastered) by Herbie Mann - Uhune

This excellent double-LP from 1973 has all of the contents from flutist Herbie Mann's Sultry Serenade and Flute Souffle albums plus one cut that was on a similar session. At the time Mann was very much into playing cool-toned bop and he started out near the top of his field. The first half of the two-fer features Mann leading a sextet with trombonist Urbie Green, Jack Nimitz (doubling on baritone and bass clarinet) and guitarist Joe Puma; "When the Sun Comes Out," "Little Man, You've Had a Busy Day" and "Swing Till the Girls Come Home" are most memorable. The second set is actually the superior of the two for Mann is teamed with fellow flutist Bobby Jaspar in a sextet also including Puma and pianist Tommy Flanagan. On "Somewhere Else" both Mann and Jaspar switch to tenors (Jasper also plays tenor on "Tel Aviv") but best is their flute "battle" on "Chasin' the Bird." Fortunately the latter session has been reissued on CD in the Original Jazz Classics series.
