Canadian punk legends
SNFU rifle through a comprehensive overview of nearly 20 years and seven albums of twisted material on
Let's Get It Right the First Time, a live recording that serves as a less self-indulgent "best-of" compilation and captures the zealous insanity of
SNFU in their element. While many old school
SNFU standards get lost in the shuffle, those that make the cut gain new life and sound better than original album versions.
Rob Johnson's menacing bass riff kicks off "Loser at Life, Loser at Death" and prefaces the dynamic tension that quickly turns to unbelievable break-neck speed. Newer songs like "Bobbit" and "Don't Have the Cow" provide a glimpse of Mr. Chi Pig's warped sense of humor, and his audience banter reinforces his scathingly brutal verbal hijinks. The coiled guitar ricochet of brothers Marc and Brent Belke still ranks among the best of the genre, not wholly surprising considering their influential early output and years spent honing their skills together. Drummer Dave Rees effectively ties the unit together and pounds through 90 mile per hour scorcher's like "Eric's Had a Bad Day" with a creative flair often lost on hardcore drummers.
Let's Get It Right the First Time delivers the humor and energy of
SNFU's live spectacle and stands as a fitting monument to their well deserved longevity. ~ Paul Henderson
