Having first made his way to mainstream ears with 2018 mixtape Life of Betrayal, it was only fitting that Floridian rapper Yungeen Ace channeled its essence for his album debut, 2021's Life of Betrayal 2x. The melodic directions that shaped the rapper's early career manifest in crisp iterations: "Deserve It" and "Dior" are rags-to-riches reflections, "Opp Boyz" and "Choppas 4 My Enemies" are ominous triggerman anthems, and "Giving Up" proves a jaded reflection of street-level betrayal. A suite of acoustic-loop trap beats boosts the rapper's melody-heavy sound, with a varied set of producers providing variations on the popular sounds of the contemporary rap landscape. And of course, the rapper's controversial, Vanessa Carlton-sampling "Who I Smoke" -- a violent and viral inversion of the singer/songwriter's bright "A Thousand Miles" -- is included.
