Traditionally inclined trumpeter/cornetist
Ruby Braff (1927-2003) spent the second half of his lengthy career gigging for appreciative audiences and recording quite a number of friendly, accessible, and entertaining albums for various labels, most prominently Chiaroscuro, Sackville, Concord, and, during his final decade, Arbors. In 2007 the Hamburg, Germany-based Nagel Heyer record company unearthed and released a live club recording made in Dublin in 1976. During this intimate and relaxed public performance,
Braff was supported by pianist Tony Drennan, bassist Jimmy McKay, and drummer
Jack Daly. Overall sound quality is comparable to that of nightclub recordings of similar vintage.
Ruby Braff's chops, intonation, repertoire, personality, and overall spirit make this a splendid posthumous addition to his already richly rewarding discography. ~ arwulf arwulf
