In addition to being piano virtuosos with a mastery of a wide variety of styles ranging from bop and stride to classical music,
Dick Hyman and
Roger Kellaway both have outrageous sense of humors. During the two live concerts heard on this CD, Hyman and Kellaway play piano duet versions of four jazz standards plus
Kellaway's theme from All in the Family ("Remembering You"), the "Woody Woodpecker Song" and "Chopsticks." Their treatments of these songs are quite adventurous with plenty of emotional and atonal outbursts while always keeping the melody in clear sight. The ensembles are often dense but the two pianists listen very closely to each other. In fact, when one changes keys, the other one goes right along and extends the idea. The episodic "Chopsticks" (which is really torn apart) is worth the price of this recording by itself.
