The second edition of
The Flying Burrito Brothers, launched by
"Sneaky" Pete Kleinow in 1975, turned out to have as many personnel shifts as the first edition put together by
Gram Parsons in 1968. This lineup played familiar
Burrito songs such as "Hot Burrito #2" and "Colorado," as well as a selection of honky-tonk country standards. Far from the greatest of
Burrito Brothers bands, this one nevertheless was superior to later versions, and the music was efficiently played before an enthusiastic audience. As the group's live albums go, however, the one to get is still
Last of the Red Hot Burritos. (
Live from Tokyo was reissued by Relix Records in 1991 under the title Close Encounters to the West Coast.) ~ William Ruhlmann
