Although the scanty liner notes make it appear that this LP features the early-'60s
Count Basie Orchestra, the music (which includes "Mame") is clearly from the mid-'60s. Trumpeter
Harry "Sweets" Edison is the most prominent soloist (altoist
Marshall Royal pops up in spots) but unfortunately, most of the charts (which include such songs as "Go Away Little Girl," "Second Time Around," "Summer Wind," and a "Mellow Medley") are rather routine and anonymous. The
Basie band swings, but with little inspiration or purpose.
