With
Lost Caverns of Thera,
Brannan Lane has created some eerily dark ambient/space music.
Lost Caverns of Thera is a bit darker than
Troposphere, which followed later in 2000, and it's quite different from
Lane's 2001
Sleep Cycle but, all and all,
Lane has created an exciting work that seems to be a mix of ambient/space music veterans
Steve Roach and
Robert Rich's more tribal music.
Lane seems to be taking a different direction with each and every recording he creates, while growing in leaps and bounds both in areas of production and composition.
Lost Caverns of Thera is one of
Lane's first forays into ambient/space music, and it certainly foreshadows those master works that would follow. While this isn't a definitive and representative example of
Lane's excellent work, it is certainly as good a starting point as any.
