Memphis rapper NLE Choppa sounds absolutely electrified on "Shotta Flow 6," the first track on his extensive Me Vs. Me mixtape and the sixth installment in a series that began on his 2019 EP Cottonwood. Though it's a nearly identical instrumental, NLE Choppa's relentless bars are pitched up to a new intensity here, starting out the mixtape with a striking display of just how much he's grown in only a few years. The majority of Me Vs. Me is similarly passionate, with Young Thug dropping by for a slithering verse on "Push It" and Polo G adding a melodic component to the tense-but-infectious "Jumpin." Choppa falls back on the distorted bass blasts and menacing flows of his earlier material on some of the tape's best tracks, with "Final Warning" and "Stompin" rampaging by at dizzying speeds. The theme of duality and being at odds with oneself that the album title suggests comes through when Choppa abruptly switches up his style. Mournful struggle track "Chicago to Memphis" brings in G Herbo to tell its tale of rising up from harder times, and Moneybagg Yo-assisted song "Too Hot" slows things down without losing any of the impact of the faster tracks.
