More Big Folk Hits is, at least in name, a sequel to
the Brothers Four's 1963 album,
The Big Folk Hits. The hits in question are those of other artists, from
Johnny Horton ("The Battle of New Orleans") to
Bob Dylan via
Peter, Paul & Mary ("Don't Think Twice, It's All Right"). The variety of material shows how widely the folk net was cast in the early '60s, encompassing commercial and traditional music old and new. The Brothers Four's stiff and precise delivery sometimes threatens to drain the life out of the songs, but listeners who appreciate the conventions of the commercial folk era and its many collegiate trios and quartets will recognize
the Brothers' charms.
