Motown Number 1's, Vol. 2, like the other releases in Universal Music Distribution's
Number 1's series, is filled to near capacity and comes in an attractive die-cut package, though it is chintzy -- as in primed for the recycling bin, or capable of being blown away by the tailwind of a closing door. Nothing can deny the value of the contents of the CD, which compiles 22 number one hits released on Motown from 1961 through 1995. The disc could use a little more chronological specificity, since the odds aren't too great that the average buyer wants hits from
the Supremes,
Rick James, and
Boyz II Men, but that's a minor gripe when the quality of the songs is so high for most of th e program. ~ Andy Kellman
