Nadat ze een onuitgebracht album schrapten waaraan ze 18 maanden hadden gewerkt, nam Scissor Sisters een pauze, waarin zanger Jake Shears naar Berlijn ging. Na de paar maanden in het club circuit van de stad doorgebracht te hebben waarin hij de inspiratie opdeed die hij nodig had, keerde Shears terug met de “blisvolle, sinistere” nummers die Night Work zou worden. De band heeft trots aangekondigd dat het album net zo “supersexueel en smerig” is als de Robert Mapplethorpe hoes van het album.
