Tex Wyndham, who is also a cornetist and a journalist, clearly has a fun time on this disc playing ragtime/stride piano and singing vintage songs. Most of the tunes were written before 1925 ("Sentimental Journey," which is turned into a boogie-woogie, is one of the few exceptions) and nearly all are quite obscure.
Wyndham just has an average voice but he puts plenty of enthusiasm, personality and knowledge into his interpretation of the words, while his piano playing is generally excellent. While not essential, this fun CD does give one the rare opportunity to hear such songs as "Elephant Rag," "Don't Put a Tax on the Beautiful Girls," "There's Just a Little Bit of Monkey Still Left in You and Me" and "Good-bye, Wild Women, Goodbye."
