New-York alternative rap still has many good days ahead of it. And now more than ever, the crew composed of Meechy Darko, Zombie Juice and Erick The Architect continues to show off its keen interest in psychotropics, pride for the Big Apple, and unchangeable taste for complex sounds. It’s through their voice work that Flatbush Zombies have made their name, by altering textures to make them sound smoother, hoarse and howling, or cavernous. These three here are proof that the force of a rap group often lies in the complementarity of their vocalists. From the introspective when i’m gone, featuring Sophie Faith, to the bizarre boom bap dirty elevator music, these three gentlemen are the incarnation of over-the-top rap. Their music is full of all kinds of excess, musically masterful and innovative. A real pleasure. © Brice Miclet/Qobuz
