COMPILATION

Swedish garage/beat band Ola & the Janglers didn't make enormous waves outside of their home shores during their short run in the mid-'60s, but the regional success they had resulted in a wealth of singles capturing their wistful early folk-rock sound. Indebted deeply to the sound of the Zombies in all of their phases, the Kinks at their earliest, and all manner of groove-heavy beat bands, Ola & the Janglers weren't trying to forge new ground as much as have some fun riding the waves that other bands initiated. The Singles 1964-1967 collects all of their strongest tracks and singles, including covers of the Zombies' "She's Not There," the Kinks' "Stop Your Sobbing," and scads of original tunes. "Love Was on Your Mind" captures the eerie 12-string guitar melancholia of the Hollies or the Byrds, one of many highlights from these better than average garage rockers.
