Ho hum, another richly melodic score by
Lee Holdridge.
One Against the Wind is yet one more fine effort from the underrated composer, this one accompanying a World War I-inspired Hallmark Hall of Fame telefilm. An uplifting and elegant score employing a smallish orchestra, its underpowered performance dilutes some of the music's overall impact, but
Holdridge's consummate craftsmanship nevertheless shines through. Despite a few battlefield-inspired action themes,
Holdridge primarily concentrates on more elegant, character-driven material -- it's hard to deny the music's subtle beauty, but equally difficult to distinguish
One Against the Wind from the composer's other work in this vein, and one can't help but wish he would take on more diverse and bigger-budgeted projects. ~ Jason Ankeny
