This long out-of-print LP (Columbia has yet to reissue more than a small percentage of its many
Harry James recordings) is a jazz-oriented date featuring the trumpeter's 1952 big band. Other than tenor saxophonist
Herbie Steward (who is well-featured), there are no major names here among
James' sidemen (both altoist
Willie Smith and tenorman
Corky Corcoran are not on the album) but the music is generally quite enjoyable and swinging.
James runs through a colorful version of "The Flight of the Bumble Bee" (with guest accordionist
Tommy Gumina) and other highlights include "Memphis Blues," "There they Go," "Feet Draggin' Blues" and "Back Beat Boogie." Not every selection is a classic (there are a couple of throwaways) but this is an album worth picking up, if one is fortunate enough to run across it.
