The Levellers never released a consistently engaging album; most of their releases were composed of a handful of singles and a lot of filler. Those singles, however, were actually quite good, as
One Way Of Life shows. Collecting 16 of the band's biggest hits (two of which are new tracks), this is the best
Levellers release available and the only one that truly appeals to casual listeners. Some of the tracks appear in remixed or re-recorded form, which diminishes the value to casual fans slightly (and, in the danceable case of the 12" remix of "Too Real," sound just plain silly) but most of the alternate versions don't differ greatly from the originals. Also, of the new tracks, a heavy rocker titled "Bozos" is one of the band's best singles yet. The compilation is truly comprehensive -- including all of the band's biggest singles in a single-disc package. This is the only
Levellers album that anyone will ever need.
