ALBUM

Immense dame de l'entertainment aux États-Unis depuis le milieu du siècle dernier, Barbra Streisand a à peu près tout fait pour divertir les foules en chanson. Capable de briller dans tous les styles, elle n'est cependant jamais meilleure que dans le music-hall et la variété internationale de standing. Il semble complètement logique que ce soit ce répertoire qu'elle revisite avec l'album de duos Partners.

Entièrement composé de nouvelles chansons, sauf sur la version deluxe où sont relégués quelques duos déjà connus, Partners est l'occasion pour Barbra Streisand de croiser quelques beaux spécimens de voix de la génération actuelle comme Michael Bublé et Josh Groban. Bien que magnifiquement chanté par Barbra Streisand, le duo virtuel avec Elvis Presley sur « Love Me Tender » ne manque pas de susciter les habituelles questions soulevées par ces manipulations sonores numériques.

C'est la seule faute de goût d'un album de bonne tenue avec, au rendez-vous, de l'émotion sur « New York State of Mind » de et avec Billy Joel, « How Deep Is the Ocean » en compagnie de son fils Jason Gould et « What Kind of Fool », où John Legend devient le complément idéal d'une Barbra Streisand rayonnante. Plus prévisible, la rencontre avec Andrea Bocelli sur « I Still Can See Your Face » ne déclenche aucun frisson, tandis que John Mayer semble un tantinet déplacé sur « Come Rain or Come Shine ».

Rien de bien nouveau sous le soleil mais un disque bien réalisé qui contient quelques moments pas loin d'être exceptionnels. Difficile de demander mieux à un trente-quatrième album, fût-t-il l'oeuvre d'une véritable et vénérable légende vivante du monde de la chanson et du cinéma.
