This minimal techno EP functions as a 3-D listening experience, with plenty of echo-covered sounds swirling around the mix. The first track alone seems to bury jingling keys, footsteps, and creaking doors along with the dubby chords, snare drum hits, and creepy, distorted voices. The tracks are all named "Pattern" followed by a number, and it's no surprise that they all seem like variations on the same theme. A few tracks add a few extra drum hits to the beat, while others mute the beat and focus on the eerie ambience. "Pattern 07" adds the slightest bit of an ominous piano melody along with the damp echoing sounds. The EP has some impressive sound design, but ultimately it seems like a set of club tools more than anything else. ~ Paul Simpson
