In 1996, Philippine female singer
Rachel Alejandro released
Perfect 10, which compiled songs from albums she previously recorded for local independent Alpha Records;
Perfect 10 also included three new songs. One new composition is "Kaya Ko Ba?" ("Can I Make It?"), which was composed by
Alejandro, who doesn't often write songs. "Kaya Ko Ba?" features a pleasant, substantive tune, which is presented here within a decidedly adventurous rock context, replete with searing electric rhythm guitar and solos.
Alejandro has always shown an affinity toward adventurous music, aside from the perfunctory easy-listening material Philippine solo artists often perform. It's also possible
Alejandro was influenced by a strong rock movement in the Philippines at the time of this album's release. The song is also presented here in an acoustic version. Another new song, "Dreams," is a penetrating ballad made distinctive by an ethnic-sounding whistle line. The remaining new song, "Irony," again features soaring electric guitar, which is set amid an interesting dance-styled arrangement.
