Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is the 2006 soundtrack album by Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic, recorded for the Tom Tykwer film that was based on the novel by Patrick Süskind. The music is generally slow, soft-edged, and atmospheric, with many soaring choral passages performed by the State Choir, Latvia, with vocal solos by soprano Chen Reiss and boy soprano Victor de Maizière. Tykwer, along with collaborators Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil, created the score, which is effective in the context of the film. As a soundtrack that evokes fleeting aromas and paints the portrait of the perfumer Grenouille, the music is mysterious and haunting, and has become quite popular.
