Düsseldorf pioneers Philipp Maiburg and Michael Scheibenreiter hand over the sample bank from their
Second Sight album, the embodiment of nu jazz cool and drum'n'bass knowhow originally released in the winter of 2000, to some of the greatest breakbeat minds in Europe for an album of unadulterated deconstruction. An accomplished list of remixers sees Swedish atmospheric innovator
Seba and the ever-hot
E-Z Rollers accompanied by compadres from both Infracom and Maiburg's own Combination imprint, Fellmann & Louise,
Hacienda, and
the Greenman, all sympathetic in their reworks and often completely rebuilding tracks from a single original element. Most interesting is the contrast in the approach of two separate producers to the same track, the most striking of which takes the form of "Maracaneses" -- which sees itself filtered down to a gentle broken beater by Karma before being rinsed for the jungle dancefloors by Scotland's Grand Unified. ~ Kingsley Marshall
