For those who like their pop vocal music old-style and unchallenging, Ken Dodd is your man. It's not that he's bland; Dodd has an excellent voice and a certain style that work on numbers like "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone," among other songs. It's just that he's not that interesting, at least by mid-2000s standards. Still, his directness has its allure, and the transfers on both albums are excellent, with a close sound to both the singer and his accompaniment.
