Another album by
Paulinho Tapajós, an important composer who is virtually unknown in spite of the many hits recorded by several major artists. For this album he called some of them:
Danilo Caymmi,
Beth Carvalho, Velha Guarda da Mangueira,
Ivan Lins,
Fagner,
Cláudio Nucci, and even the Golden Boys (!). All songs here were written by
Paulinho, together with diverse partners. In spite of the consistent quality of his works, the samba "Do Fundo do Armário" must be mentioned with its trombone de gafieira; the provincial "Joatinga"; the thoughtful "Duas Vidas"; the quick synthesis of the poor Brazilian in "O Campo Do Chico"; the delicate "Patins"; "Nas Quebradas da Vida"; and the samba-enredo "Ao Chico com Carinho." As always, his sambas are wonderful, but he falls in some traps in the overproduced arrangements of softer songs, which demand an (apparently) simpler approach, undressed of excessive electronics.
