Although none of the 40 tracks on this two-disc set are exactly essential in the grand scheme of reggae from Jamaica, that fact might actually make it worth checking out for fans of the genre looking for something past the usual. Among the neat little gems here are
Delroy Wilson's version of "Freedom Train Is Coming,"
Cornel Campbell's "Fight Against Corruption,"
the Paragons' lovely "Heaven and Earth," and a pair of
Dave Collins' classics, "Double Barrel" and "Monkey Spanner," but everything here has the same easy and summery vibe to it. Again, this set would make a nice addendum for someone who already has plenty of
Bob Marley,
Toots & the Maytals, etc.
