RH-8SB has some really cool sounds.
Terminal Sound System has a way with static and dissonance that works well when contrasted with atmospheric passages. The misfortune here is that
TSS does not stay there. The first track is the highlight of the CD.
TSS flounder around after that as they launch into rhythmic -- even techno -- ambience. About half-way through, they try to recapture the chemistry of "Silt," the first cut, and it almost works. The techno returns though and breaks the magic. There are some good moments on this CD, but they do not sustain themselves. Artists like
Vampire Nation,
The Orb, and
Eat Static have done much better. ~ Jim Brenholts
