On these stray recordings, made live or at soundchecks between 1994 and 1996,
Warren Cuccurullo revisits his work as a guitarist for
Frank Zappa ("Transylvania Boogie," "Willie the Pimp"),
Missing Persons ("In-Flight Entertainment"), and
Duran Duran ("Ordinary World"). Mostly playing instrumentally, he takes listeners through his guitar influences, which begin on the title track with
Jimi Hendrix and throw in plenty of
Zappa. Fans of the electric guitar work of those masters should recognize the sound here and admire
Cuccurullo's ability to re-create it. In his group settings, the guitarist often takes a backseat to the song or the arrangement, but
Roadrage presents him in the foreground, stretching out and enjoying himself. It's a busman's holiday, of course, but a treat for rock guitar admirers all the same. ~ William Ruhlmann
