The music on this set, which features
Liberty Ellman's acoustic guitar,
Jamie Foxx's electric guitar, and bassist
Stephan Crump, is intimate and full of subtle interplay. The approach, if not the style, is a little bit like that of the
Bill Evans Trio despite the very different instrumentation and the original material. Most of the playing is quiet, thoughtful and occasionally a bit dry.
Rosetta can succeed as background music but, if played loud, one can really appreciate the high musicianship and the creativity that these three musicians display. It is well worth several close listens.
