September, the fifth album by Norwegian singer
Rebekka Bakken, picks up where its Americana-influenced predecessor
Morning Hours left off: co-produced by
Malcolm Burn (
Bakken's husband, who has worked with
Emmylou Harris and
Bob Dylan, among others), the record incorporates numerous folk and country elements while retaining
Bakken's quiet and pensive songcraft.
Bakken's band includes bassist
Gail Ann Dorsey, guitarist
Bill Dillon, and drummer
Bill Dobrow, and apart from her original songs,
September also features covers of
Bruce Springsteen's "The Wrestler,"
Alphaville's "Forever Young," and
Jane Siberry's "Love Is Everything." ~ Christian Genzel
