A two-disc London cast recording of a revue culled from songs written by
Stephen Sondheim for such musicals as A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, A Little Night Music, Follies, Anyone Can Whistle, Pacific Overtures,
Do I Hear a Waltz?, West Side Story, and Gypsy, and more obscure works such as "Evening Primrose" (a TV show), The 7% Solution, and The Mad Show. In anthology and presented starkly, the songs are (if possible) even more impressive than when heard in the shows for which they were written. If there was any doubt that
Stephen Sondheim is the greatest talent writing contemporary musicals, this show erased it. ~ William Ruhlmann
