Firmly rooted in the tradition of folk, country blues, and punk,
Situation Out of Control is a caustic and twangy mixed bag of pared down rock & roll. John Tibbles plays an incredibly rhythmic bass that is complimented by the steady hand of his father, Doug Tribbles, on drums. The title track is thick and meaty, filled with just a tinge of hard rock -- courtesy of
Barbara Keith's driving electric guitar -- while "Highland Boy" and "My Horse Has Wings" turn it down a notch to capture pure choral balladry.
Barbara Keith has had her songs covered by the likes of
Tanya Tucker and
Barbra Streisand, and as one-third of
the Stone Coyotes her command of melody, harmony, and rock sensibility has the potential to lift this trio beyond musical obscurity.
