It often happens that the sons or daughters of famous musicians launch a music career on the strength of the parent's reputation, with only a thimbleful of their own skill to offer. Such is not the case with
Gerald Levert, the son of
O'Jays vocalist
Eddie Levert, Sr. Like his father,
Gerald has a penchant for soulful, stirring R&B sung in a passionate, often romantic style.
2007's
Something to Talk About finds
Gerald and
Eddie working together again in much the same manner as their successful 1995 collaboration,
Father & Son.
Eddie's Philly soul pedigree is in evidence, but the sound is unmistakably contemporary, and
Gerald more than holds his own alongside his legendary father. These tracks were completed before
Gerald's untimely death in late 2006, and stand as a testament to his talent, and to that of his father, as well.
