This was one of two recordings for Bobby Valentín's Bronco Records that
Leavitt did in the late '80s, and stands out as among the very best ever recorded in the band's long-running history. The sound is just right; the band's musical style reached its summit and vocalists Sammy Marrero and Carlitos Ramirez reached absolute heights in performing the tasteful material in this production. "Somos el Son" is among the band's catchiest tunes, "La Cuica" brings a brief moment of much needed lunacy, and "Luna de la Noche" is a positive pat on the back regarding lost love. One of the band's finest moments,
Somos el Son brings out the best of this polished outfit without compromising the group's catchy style. ~ José A. Estévez Jr.
