Newcomers A.S.T. join the art-damaged
Die Monitr Batss for this split EP on Dim Mak.
DMS kick in two songs and offer up their most blatantly pop offering yet with "Physical Distraction," which adds a bit of
Ramones directness to the jagged skyline they introduced on the
Youth Controllerzzz full-length. A.S.T. keep things just as fractured with three spider-web crochet cuts, "Blacktop," "Work," and "Song3." Both groups have a charming rough-hewn quality to their writing that owes a tip of the hat to no wave, but A.S.T.'s all-girl attack is just as reminiscent of happenings on the other side of the Atlantic with Kleenex, Sara Goes Pop,
Poison Girls, and other D.I.Y. camps active in the early '80s. ~ Wade Kergan
