Hailing from Columbus, OH,
Everyday Sunday is a band whose debut disc drips with Midwest flavoring. The band utilizes a sound that's predominantly driven by a guitar attack and the apt vocal stylings of Trey Pearson. Cuts like "Would You Leave" and "Mess With Your Mind" are fine examples of hooky power pop melodies that tend to stick in your craw. With cuts like"Wait" and "Lose It Again" the band kicks into overdrive with heavier vocals and an intense rhythmic attack that drives each tune nicely. While about half the disc offers a landscape of pop/rock ventures, the other half treats the listener to a lighter fare of gems à la
the Gin Blossoms or
Toad the Wet Sprocket. Songs like "Stand Up" and "Hanging On" find the band pulling back the throttle while layered guitars give way to the emotionally potent vocals of Pearson.
Stand Up is the type of release that may earn
Everyday Sunday New Artist of the Year nods. It's an opus that offers cut after cut of soulful, poignant lyrics and a musical bedrock that fills the senses. ~ Steven Douglas Losey
