RCA's Stereo Action series was the ultimate line of stereo-demonstration albums. Each originally appeared in a thick, die-cut package complete with abstract art and the story of the unique recording process: "the sound your eyes can follow" -- scored for stereo movement. Made in 1961,
Stereo Action Unlimited misses out on some of the better, later albums in the series, notably
the Three Suns' Movin' and Groovin' and
Esquivel's Latin-Esque. Of what is covered, the Guitars Unlimited's "Expresso" and
Ray Martin's "Jericho" are especially good choices; others are fair to questionable. It serves as a fine introduction to the series and is better than most of the individual records.
