On this highly enjoyable CD, guitarist-vocalist
Marty Grosz leads an all-star swing group called
Destiny's Tots and comprised of trumpeter
Peter Ecklund, trombonist
Dan Barrett, clarinetist Bob Gordon, Loren Schoenberg on tenor, pianist
Keith Ingham, bassist Murray Wall and drummer Hal Smith. The majority of the selections (which include "The Skeleton in the Closet,"
Hoagy Carmichael's "Old Man Harlem," "Little Girl" and "Eye Opener") are obscurities and even the better-known songs (such as "Sunrise Serenade" and "Sonny Boy") are rarely heard in this type of freewheeling but controlled small-group setting. A gem of its kind. ~ Scott Yanow
