A prime-time funk band that sounded like everybody else. Most of the original members of
the Bar-Kays died in a fatal plane crash along with
Otis Redding. This collection features one tune by the original
Bar-Kays, "Soul Finger," their first hit. It's a bouncy instrumental with a party ambience. The '70s and '80s
Bar-Kays kicks out the rest of these high-powered dancers, including uncut versions of "Lets Have Some Fun," "Shake Your Rump to Your Funk," "Your Boogie Body," and "Freak Show." Despite not having a clear identity, they excelled at incorporating others' styles into their funky mix. ~ Andrew Hamilton
