Like its sister, Best of Rod Stewart, Vol. 2 was also expanded in 1998 to include several bonus tracks -- it now weighs in at a hefty 19 tracks. The biggest hits were put on the first volume, so this contains smaller hits and album-oriented radio favorites like "Country Comforts," "Mandolin Wind," "Reason to Believe," "Lost Paraguayos," and "True Blue," along with a superlative selection of album tracks and non-LP singles tracks. This may not be exactly what listeners drawn to best-of collections are looking for, since it doesn't contain all that many hits, but the music is consistently excellent, and it's a first-rate sampling of
Rod's best era. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
