Although publicity for the band may lead one to believe otherwise,
the Break are doing nothing more than rehashing pop-punk/rock for the masses. The one thing that they have going for them is that their lyrics are halfway intelligent and not all about girls who broke their hearts. All the songs on this 13-song self-titled album are upbeat, catchy, and reminiscent of poppy music such as
MXPX,
Blink-182, and
A New Found Glory. If that's what
the Break think punk rock really is, then they've got some history to read up on. Unfortunately, it seems that most of the people in music are under this same false notion. However, looking at the band as another pop band shows that they do a fairly adequate job filling out that role. Unfortunately, so do hundreds of other acts in the music scene. Without so much as a creative or experimental angle to add in with it, the music seems rather stagnant. ~ Kurt Morris
