In lesser hands, the songs and concepts featured on this CD would be juvenile at best, and quite offensive, at worst. But the duo of
Roy Nathanson and
Anthony Coleman know how to satirize, parody, and make socially charged commentary without ridiculing those they're satirizing. Thus, the opening number "Birds/Jews" isn't insensitive Anti-Semitic idiocy, but snappy, intelligent, philosophy/exposition on religious supposition and folly. The other numbers range from inspired to wild, with the duo's instrumental versatility and wild, often uncanny humor resulting in free-wheeling music and equally unpredictable verbal responses and exchanges. ~ Ron Wynn
