Bryan Duncan has been spending time with
Sting and
Peter Gabriel. Or at least, that's what it sounds like on his album
The Last Time I Was Here. It's an album of moody, atmospheric pop that sounds like
Duncan is trying just a bit too hard to be hip. It's not a disaster; just unoriginal. One particularly good example is "This Love Is What I Get," with
Duncan whispering the lyrics at the end. Whispering? It just doesn't work. The only song that doesn't feel pretentious is "I Still Love You - Simple As That," a sweet, quirky love song. If you're looking for a Christian version of
Sting, this is it. If you're looking for originality, you'll need to keep looking. ~ Melinda Hill
