The unapologetic monumentality that Eugene Ormandy brought to his collaboration with the equally monumental sound of the 350-member-strong Mormon Tabernacle Choir will stir even the most stoic listener. Hearing the Choir accompanied by the Philadelphia Orchestra in the mammoth Mormon Tabernacle is an unrivalled acoustic experience. The arranger Peter J. Wilhousky appreciated this acoustic fact, and he wrote for the Choir and Orchestra two arrangements that are so ideally suited to their distinctive sound that they themselves have become classics of the choral repertoire: his majestic arrangement of "The Lord's Prayer" and his inspiring one of "Battle Hymn of the Republic."

In addition to those pieces that are dear to the Mormon tradition, this compilation includes both excerpts from choral masterpieces of the Western classical music tradition, such as a moving performance of "Blessed are they that mourn" from Brahms' 'A German Requiem,' and ever-popular favorites, such as the touching "Londonderry Air."
